How Tessera works, and how to get help.

Recording & marking

Tessera records continuously while open and mounted. There are three ways an incident becomes a dossier:

• Automatic. The Incident Engine watches motion and detects collisions and hard braking. Three sensitivity presets — Relaxed, Standard, Sensitive — tune how readily it fires.
• One tap. The MARK button flags the moment by hand.
• “Hey Siri, mark this in Tessera.” Hands-free, even with the screen dark.

Each mark captures the footage from before and after the moment, so the lead-up is always preserved.

Auto-start when you get in the car

iOS only lets an app record video while it is open, so true zero-touch start uses a one-time Shortcuts automation (about a minute to set up — the in-app guide under Library → Auto-start walks you through it):

• CarPlay (recommended). Shortcuts → Automation → + → CarPlay → “When Connecting” → Run Immediately → add the Start Recording action from Tessera.
• Bluetooth. The same automation keyed to your car’s stereo — for cars without CarPlay.
• Charger. Trigger on connecting to power — works in any car (note: also fires when charging elsewhere).

Your phone must be unlocked for Tessera to come forward; in a mount, a Face ID glance is enough. “Hey Siri, start recording in Tessera” works too.

Verifying a dossier

Every signed dossier exports as a bundle anyone can check — no Tessera app required. With the public key, video, and signature files in hand:

• openssl dgst -sha256 -verify pubkey.pem -signature core.sig core.json

Prefer not to use the command line? Verify a dossier right in your browser — it runs entirely on your device, and nothing is uploaded.

A result of Verified OK proves the telemetry has not been altered. The hashes printed in the included PDF report match the bundle’s files exactly, and the clip carries an embedded C2PA content credential. Editing a single video frame or telemetry sample breaks verification.

Free tier & the one-time unlock

Tips

• Mount the phone with a clear view of the road; Tessera records what the camera sees.
• On hot days, a shaded or vented mount helps — Tessera automatically lowers frame rate and resolution before heat forces a stop, and keeps recording.
• Tessera arms itself each time you open it. There is no account and nothing to configure to start.
